Removing Harmful Toxins

A detox is the process of removing toxins from the body through eating a special diet and following simple guidelines. Detox is a word often associated with drug addicts because when a person stops using a drug they go through a natural detox where the drug residue is removed from their body. This detoxification of the body causes side effects for the addict, sometimes severe. However, with a general detox, you will not usually feel such serious side effects.

A typical detox diet for someone who is generally healthy and not a drug or heavy alcohol user will not produce severe symptoms. When you detox, early on you may feel some symptoms, such as, lightheadedness, upset stomach and headaches. These are not harmful side effects, but signals that your cleanse is working and will subside as you go along. Of course before embarking on any kind of detox diet or diet change you should consult with your personal health care provider, particularly if you have existing health conditions.

During a typical detox you will stop consuming any harmful substances. This includes foods that are not natural, including animal based products, sugar, any processed foods, alcohol, nicotine and caffeine. Instead you will be on a diet that is full of fresh fruits and vegetables. Depending on your fluid intake from the fruits and vegetables and your personal situation, you may also be drinking substantial amounts of water.

A Sample Diet

The typical free detox diet plans that you will find will be designed to be used for a day or two right on up to a two week period of time. The diet will aim to help increase waste elimination, cleanse the colon and get rid of foods from your diet that will counteract these effects.

There are many different types of free detox diet plans, and of course you’ll be looking for the one that will work best for you. You may want to choose a diet that is less restrictive, such as a one day detox, where you drink only water and fresh made juice for one day a week to detox. Many people find that doing blended smoothies and salads for a week or two is easier and more rewarding than a juice or water cleanse.

It is my opinion that the best detox diet is one comprised of fresh raw fruits and vegetables. This diet works naturally with your body to release toxicity while nourishing your body with the nutrients that it needs. If you were to maintain a diet comprised of at least 75% raw foods then your body would be continually cleansing and nourishing on a daily basis without any detox symptoms at all. This is what one experiences on the raw foods diet.

The raw food diet has helped tens of thousands of people all around the world become healthier and enjoy a more active and fulfilling life. It’s not an all or nothing proposition, as you can ease into it simply by adding a big salad, green smoothie, or fresh juice into your diet each day. Eating as much raw food each day as you can even if it's only 50% will improve your health immeasurably. If you eat healthy food then you have far less reason for a detox diet down the road.

With these free detox diet plans the only money you spend is on produce, and since you’re not eating all that other stuff, you can actually come out ahead cost wise as well as feeling great.  You just need to make sure that whatever detox diet you choose that it meets your needs and fits your schedule. Remember that on a detox diet of any kind you will be using the bathroom more, so you will need to be able to ensure you can easily do that. Additionally, you will be eating foods that you may not normally eat which is a great excuse to visit your local Farmers Market or the organic produce section at your local market.
